The
US Route 66 is one of the firsts federal highways to be
opened to connect the East and the West (11 november
1926).
Originally it was made to link Chicago,
starting from Michigan Ave. and Jackson Blv., and Santa
Monica in Los Angeles, ending to Santa Monica Blv. and
Ocean Ave, throughout 3 time zones and 8 States:
Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico,
Arizona e California.
The
total length of the highway is 2347 miles (3755 km).
In
the 27 June 1985 the US 66 has been removed from the US
highways system and it is became part of the Federal
Administration of Parks as a “National Trust monument”.

route is now an historic monument named “Historic Route 66”. It is
the only route in the world to be part of a National Parks system
and it is also the longest in the world.
